IBO Report Highlight: Poland’s Blueberry Industry Enters a New Phase of Growth and Modernization

Poland’s blueberry industry continues to evolve as production expands and younger plantings enter full production. While the country remains one of Europe’s leading blueberry suppliers, recent seasons have highlighted the growing importance of varietal renewal, climate resilience and stronger domestic demand.

Supply dynamics are shifting in meaningful ways. Poland’s blueberry acreage reached approximately 12,916 hectares in 2024, while spring frosts across several growing regions pressured yields and fruit sizing. Even so, expanding acreage and modern production systems helped stabilize overall supply.

At retail, fresh blueberries continue gaining ground with Polish consumers. Blueberries are now the country’s second most popular berry, supported by wider retail availability, ongoing promotional efforts, and improving fruit quality. Rising domestic consumption is becoming increasingly important as export competition across Europe intensifies.

Looking ahead, the industry’s trajectory will depend on how effectively growers manage varietal transitions, weather-related risks and market development.
