About BC Blueberry Council

The British Columbia Blueberry Council (BCBC) is the central coordinating body for one of the world’s premier highbush blueberry-producing regions. Our organization is dedicated to evolving from a program administrator into a “structural integrator” that aligns research, compliance, and global market development to ensure long-term grower prosperity.
Our Vision & Mission
Vision: To position British Columbia as the most trusted, compliant, and innovative premium blueberry region globally, recognized for scientific leadership and verified food safety excellence.
Mission: To strengthen grower profitability and industry resilience by coordinating strategic research, developing competitive proprietary varieties, and expanding into diversified global markets.
How We Make a Difference
We bridge the gap between scientific innovation and farm-level success by creating a unified industry ecosystem. Our work focuses on several key areas:
Market Diversification: We are actively reducing structural risk by expanding our footprint into the Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and high-compliance European markets. Our goal is to ensure that no single export destination accounts for more than 55–60% of our total exports by 2030.
Research Leadership: We invest at least 30% of levy revenue into advancing production resilience, including the development of four new BC-specific blueberry varieties.
Compliance Excellence: We support growers in meeting the strictest international standards, to maintain access to premium global segments.
Professional Development: Through the new Blue Card system and a Digital Learning Management System, we provide growers with the tools and training needed to remain competitive in a rapidly changing global landscape.
Ultimately, our success is measured by the economic resilience we create for BC’s farming families, ensuring our industry remains a global benchmark for quality and reliability.
