China’s blueberry industry is entering a new phase of development. While the country is already the world’s largest blueberry producer, production continues to expand rapidly, particularly in the southwestern province of Yunnan where planting growth has averaged around 10–15% annually.
Despite this growth, blueberry consumption per capita in China remains relatively low, leaving significant room for future demand expansion as distribution networks improve and blueberries reach consumers beyond major first-tier cities.
The market is increasingly segmented, with premium-quality fruit commanding strong prices while average-quality berries face steep discounts, driving greater industry focus on improved genetics, post-harvest handling, and quality consistency.
