First commercial shipment of Australian blueberries lands in Vietnam

The first shipment of fresh Australian blueberries arrived in Vietnam on December 5, following market access approval in October.

In a press release announcing the milestone, Australian produce supplier The Berry Collective says the container was full of only Echo blueberries, grown specifically for the Vietnamese market.

The shipment was made possible through a collaboration among Australian produce companies: The Berry Collective, Ti Produce Marketing, An Minh Fruits, and Berry Sweet in Western Australia.

“This is an exciting moment not only for our organization, but for the entire Australian blueberry sector,” said Joshua McGuiness, CEO of The Berry Collective, in a joint statement.

He noted that securing access to Vietnam has been a long-term priority. He added that seeing the shipment arrive in excellent condition is “gratifying and reflects the dedication of Berry Sweet, the strength of our supply chain, and the strong support from industry and government levels.”
According to Australian berry representative, Berries Australia, the country’s production schedule and climate allow for harvesting premium blueberries during peak demand in Asia. The Vietnamese market is expected to generate about $2.65 million for the Australian blueberry industry in the first year, with potential to grow to $14.6 million in the next five years.

Industry leaders view this development as essential for expanding export opportunities and strengthening Australia’s reputation as a trusted supplier of premium fresh produce to Southeast Asia.

Ti Produce Marketing described Vietnam as a dynamic, rapidly expanding market and expressed pride in introducing more Australian blueberries to local consumers.

The Berry Collective and Ti Produce anticipate strong blueberry demand through December and early January as the fruit gains momentum in the new market.

“This shipment marks the beginning of a long-term market development effort,” McGuiness added. “Vietnamese consumers value safe, clean, premium fruit, and Australia is well-positioned to deliver exactly that. Our focus now is on consistency, reliability, and highlighting the high-quality Australian Mountain Blue varieties we are known for.”

Australian blueberries for Vietnamese pomelos

At the same ceremony approving Australian blueberry entry into Vietnam, Vietnam secured market access for its pomelos, which join the list of Vietnamese fruits authorized for entry to Australia, including dragon fruit, mango, longan, rambutan, lychee, star apple, and passion fruit.

Australian blueberries join other fruit categories already shipped to Vietnam, such as grapes, oranges, mandarins, cherries, peaches, nectarines, and plums.

Vietnam’s fresh pomelos are currently exported to 14 countries and territories, including the United States, South Korea, and New Zealand.

Vietnam is the world’s second-largest producer of pomelo: the crop expanded from roughly 123,500 acres in 2015 to about 247,100 acres in 2025, with annual production exceeding 1.32 million short tons.

The export value of fresh pomelos reached USD 60 million in 2024.
